*Paramount+ has unveiled “NOLA King,” a thrilling spinoff from the hit series “Tulsa King,” with Samuel L. Jackson taking on his first TV series lead as Russell Lee Washington Jr.
Introduced in the upcoming third season of “Tulsa King,” premiering in September, Jackson’s character is a complex figure sent by New York’s Renzetti crime family to eliminate Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), per the series description. Instead, inspired by Dwight’s empire in Tulsa, Washington returns to New Orleans to reconnect with his past and seize control, clashing with old enemies and the mob.
“Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment.
“Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s TULSA KING, audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance, supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series,” McCarthy added.
The series, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, boasts a powerhouse team with executive producers Taylor Sheridan, Stallone, and Jackson, alongside David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and others.
“Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise,” Stallone said. Glasser added, “The success of this show has now led us to another icon. I cannot wait to see what Sam brings to this world.”
Jackson, a cinematic legend with films grossing nearly $15 billion worldwide, brings his iconic gravitas to “NOLA King.” Known for roles like Jules in “Pulp Fiction” and Nick Fury in 12 Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, his career spans classics like “Do The Right Thing,” “Django Unchained,” and “The Incredibles.” His recent TV work includes the acclaimed “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” and “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”
“Tulsa King” ranked as Paramount+’s top global original series in 2024 and a top 10 SVOD series in Q4. “NOLA King” promises to build on this success, with Jackson’s dynamic performance driving the franchise forward, distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside Paramount+ markets.
