*Nicki Minaj has won a small victory in her ongoing legal battle with a former employee after the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office denied a warrant for her arrest.
Last week Minaj (real name Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty) was accused of assault, battery, and emotional distress by her ex-manager Brandon Garrett. Although the hip-hop star has denied the allegations, the case prompted local law enforcement involvement.
Shortly after news of the lawsuit went viral, the Detroit Police Department filed for a warrant for Nicki Minaj’s arrest. However, according to TMZ, that request has officially been denied by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
A law enforcement force told the outlet that the request was denied due to “insufficient evidence,” but the matter is still being investigated as Minaj still faces further legal challenges.
Per TMZ: “Garrett claims the rapper got aggressive with him while on tour in Detroit back in April 2024 … alleging NM flew into a rage over a situation regarding her personal prescriptions,” the outlet writes.

As we reported earlier, the lawsuit describes a volatile situation where Garrett was reportedly called to Minaj’s dressing room after running an errand. Upon his arrival, Garrett claims the rapper confronted him alongside her team, becoming furious when she discovered he had sent someone else to pick up one of her prescriptions. Garrett alleges that Minaj launched into a tirade, threatening his career and safety with remarks such as, “You’re a dead man walking,” and “You just f***ed up your whole life.”
The situation allegedly culminated with Minaj striking Garrett on the side of the face, a blow so impactful that it knocked his hat off. Garrett further claims that her security team intervened, and when he attempted to leave, she struck his wrist, causing him physical pain.
Feeling threatened, Garrett locked himself in a restroom at the Little Caesars Arena, where he remained for hours out of fear for his safety, informed his fiancée about the incident, and ultimately felt stranded in Detroit since he wasn’t allowed to board the tour bus back to Chicago.
Garrett is suing Minaj for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, seeking damages for his alleged suffering.
Nicki Minaj’s lawyer Judd Burstein denies Garrett’s allegations.
“It is completely false and frivolous,” he said in a statement. “We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
