*Barack Obama’s time in the political spotlight still shines years after his era as President, per his appearances supporting Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election
And while chatter comes up and folks yearn for his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, to step in political waters, Page Six reports she is not shy about the odds of her following Barack’s lead. For her, it’s all about her daughters, 26-year-old Malia and 23-year-old Sasha.
“I was so glad when we got out of the White House,” the 61-year-old matriarch said in a recent episode of Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast, referencing the end of Barack’s second term as Commander in Chief in 2017.
“I wanted them to have the freedom of not having the eyes of the world on them. “They still are dealing with paparazzi and being who they are and trying to carve out their own identity.”
To sum it up, being out of the political landscape + a desire for life away from public eyes = a one-word answer (‘No!’) for questions about Michelle’s political future.

“When people ask me, would I ever run [for office], the answer is no,” she stated, noting how inquiring minds “have absolutely no idea the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role.”
“Not only am I not interested in politics in that way but the thought of putting my girls back into that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves — we’ve done enough.”
Mrs. Obama’s political future is not brand-new topic. Despite not being as active as her better half, she has made as much of an impact in various circle. So much so that it finds her spending time repeating her stance that it is “never gonna happen.”
Malia and Sasha are too important for her to even consider running for office.
“They’ve already served their time,” Michelle acknowledged “… It would be unthinkable. Nope.”
Michelle’ s political leanings (or lack thereof) wasn’t the only thing she addressed with “Not Gonna Lie” listeners. Her struggle raising “normal” children in the public eye — without them “ending up on Page Six” was touched on
Mrs. Obama’s appearance on “Not Gonna Lie” comes amid talk generated about marital struggles after her noticeable absences from her husband’s side during recent events, including former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration as well as a Los Angeles Clippers game Barack attended solo recently. Still, the Obama’s are not playing into the hype as they’ve subtly — and repeatedly — hit back with loved-up social media uploads.
In January, Page Six mentioned the situation, reporting that Michelle is “checked out” of Washington, D.C., life and is “never there,” opting to spend “most” of her time in Martha’s Vineyard.
“You cannot tell Michelle what to do — no one can,” a source told the outlet.
