
*A groundbreaking docuseries celebrating the birth and evolution of hip hop is set to debut on Paramount+ this summer.
Titled “Hip Hop Was Born Here,” the five-part series, hosted and executive produced by hip hop legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee LL Cool J alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, will launch on July 22 in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and Brazil, with an international rollout in the U.K., Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria the following day, July 23.
Per the news release, the series takes an in-depth look at hip hop, not only as a musical genre but as a cultural movement that has shaped global entertainment. Viewers will be guided through the streets, studios, and neighborhoods where hip hop took root, with LL Cool J leading conversations with pioneers and rising stars alike.
The docuseries features exclusive interviews with iconic figures such as Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Method Man, Rev Run, Roxanne Shante, and Salt of Salt-N-Pepa, among others, offering fresh perspectives on the genre’s origins and its transformation into a worldwide phenomenon.
All five episodes will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+, providing a comprehensive exploration of hip hop’s journey. From the early days of block parties to its current status as a cultural juggernaut, the series highlights the artists, tracks, and moments that defined the movement. Special appearances by Jadakiss, Marley Marl, Lady London, and others add depth to the narrative, showcasing the diversity and enduring influence of hip hop.

“Hip Hop Was Born Here,” is a collaboration between LL COOL J’s Rock The Bells and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, with executive producers including Stone Roberts, Jamie Horowitz, Kirk Fraser, Bruce Gillmer, and Vanessa Whitewolf. Alicia Portugal serves as co-executive producer for MTV Entertainment Studios.
This docuseries promises to be a must-watch for music fans, offering an authentic and engaging look at the culture that continues to shape the world.
