*The California Wildfires have disrupted Hollywood’s awards season schedule, prompting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to address recent cancellation rumors.
The Academy has denied reports that the March 2 Academy Awards ceremony might be canceled, with officials confirming no such discussions or plans are underway, Too Fab reports. The organization has made adjustments due to the wildfires sweeping across the Los Angeles area, including extending the voting deadline twice—now set for January 17—and postponing the announcement of nominees to January 23.
Additionally, the Oscars Nominee Luncheon scheduled for February 10 has been canceled, and the Scientific and Technical Awards ceremony will be rescheduled, though no new date has been announced. Several board members and a former CEO of the Academy have personally been affected by the fires, losing their homes in the disaster.
The LA fires have claimed at least 25 lives, destroyed over 12,300 structures, and forced thousands to evacuate. While the cause of the fires is still under investigation, authorities are reportedly focusing on a specific area to trace the origin of the Palisades Fire.
The Academy has redirected $250,000, originally budgeted for the luncheon, to the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support those affected by the wildfires. This contribution raises the Academy’s total donations to $1 million.

February’s packed awards schedule includes the Grammys on February 2, the Super Bowl on February 9, the BAFTAs the same weekend, and the SAG Awards on February 23. The Oscars will follow on March 2, marking the end of a chaotic awards season.
The 29th Annual Critics Choice Awards, originally planned for January 12 and postponed for January 26, has now been pushed to February, though a specific date has yet to be announced. Chelsea Handler is still set to host.
