*Contrary to an earlier report by TMZ that Beyoncé was set to surprise attendees at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with her presence, The Hollywood Reporter says it has confirmed that the iconic singer will NOT be attending the 2024 event.
“Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there,” the Grammy-winning star’s representative told The Hollywood Reporter. “The report of a performance is untrue.”
Speculation about Beyoncé’s attendance and performance at this year’s DNC, which celebrates Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic presidential nomination, has been rampant online throughout the week. Yet, as the event progresses, it appears that these rumors are unfounded.
The DNC, spread over four star-studded days, is being hosted by Tony Goldwyn, Ana Navarro, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington, with each star emceeing one night of the event. The convention has had performances from Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Patti LaBelle, among other major musicians. Surprise appearances, such as Oprah Winfrey who delivered a passionate speech urging independent voters to make their voices heard, have also marked the event.
On the third night of the convention, John Legend and Sheila E. honored vice presidential candidate Tim Walz’s home state of Minnesota by performing Prince’s legendary song “Let’s Go Crazy.” The late music icon, Prince, hailed from Minneapolis and the performance was a vibrant tribute to his legacy.
Stevie Wonder surprised attendees with an unannounced appearance in Chicago on Wednesday, where he performed his classic hit “Higher Ground.” His powerful message resonated with the crowd: “This is the moment to remember: when you tell your children where you were and what you did. As we stand between history’s pain and tomorrow’s promises, we must choose courage over complacency. It is time to get up and go vote,” Wonder passionately urged.
Meanwhile, the July Republican National Convention saw its share of celebrity attendees including Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Amber Rose. However, with distinguished figures like Winfrey and performances by the likes of Legend and LaBelle, the 2024 DNC has certainly captured widespread attention and engagement, even without the rumored presence of Beyoncé.
As for the confusion surrounding Beyoncé’s attendance, who knows what turns future political events may take? One thing’s for sure, the stars who graced the DNC stage have already made it a memorable and inspiring occasion.
