*Tyler Perry has responded to fans’ requests for a new installment of “Why Did I Get Married?” by sharing an image hinting at a script for the next installment in the franchise.
Per Revolt, Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Again?” potentially continues the storylines of the couples introduced in the 2007 film. A sequel, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” was released in 2010. The cast includes Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Perry himself, Richard T. Jones, Malik Yoba, and Michael Jai White.
After sharing the screenshot, comedian Kev On Stage commented “Movie script gone be done TONIGHT!! Yall shooting TOMORROW!!!”
Another Instagram user wrote, “No corny ending like part two. Gavin did not deserve that ending. Part one was dope.”
A third posted, “Let’s go! Did Janet and the Roc get married? And, what about Phil, Gavin’s attorney… Is that who Dianne was cheating with? I remember the bedroom scene when she called Terry, Phil! She told Terry that Phil was another attorney, but didn’t share any details. In the boardroom, while Patricia and Gavin were figuring out who gets what with their lawyers, Diane was representing Patricia while Phil (coincidentally, the same name) was representing Gavin. We need answers!”
In related news, Netflix recently released the trailer for Perry’s wartime drama “The Six Triple Eight,” starring Kerry Washington.
This is the story of the war’s only Women’s Army Corps unit of color, which Perry wrote, directed, and produced alongside Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig, and Carlota Espinosa.
Per Tudum, “The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion contributed to the war effort in a unique way: by sorting through a three-year backlog of mail (17 million pieces of it!) that hadn’t been delivered to American soldiers far from home. In the face of discrimination and a vast, unfamiliar country divided by global conflict, these 855 women brought hope to the front lines. Given six months to complete the task, the 6888th accomplished their mission in less than 90 days, providing morale when the United States needed it most.”
“Every single person, Black, white, anywhere in between, male, female, anybody can see themselves in those characters,” Avant said during the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. “Because all stories, to me, are human stories. Everything to me is about humanity.”
“I felt like these women were with us in this process,” Washington added. “You felt their spirit all the time.”
In a statement on X/Twitter, Perry wrote, “You have no idea what it means to me to have been given the grace and the blessing to be able to tell THIS story! Every detail is dedicated to the memory of the 855 black women and women of color of the Six Triple Eight. When America needed hope, they delivered! ”
“The Six Triple Eight” will debut exclusively on Netflix on Dec. 20.
