*Iconic music producer and composer Quincy Jones passed away from pancreatic cancer, after living with the illness for years, according to a death certificate.
As we reported earlier, Jones passed away in his Bel Air, California, home on Nov. 3. He was 91. According to his death certificate by CNN and PEOPLE, he succumbed to complications related to pancreatic cancer. A private memorial was held recently in Los Angeles, with a public service planned. He is survived by seven children, including actress Rashida Jones.
“My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept ‘jazz hours’ starting in high school and never looked back,” she wrote in an Instagram tribute on Nov. 7. “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.”
Rashida dded, “He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius. All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy.”
Known for producing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and co-creating “We Are the World,” Jones earned nearly 30 Grammys, and multiple Oscar nominations during his prolific career, which includes credits on over 400 albums.

Jones built a lasting legacy in both music and business, amassing an estimated $500 million net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth, Newsweek reports. The songwriter and composer was married three times and had seven children with five different women: Jolie (69), Rachel (59), Martina (58), Quincy III (55), Kidada (50), Rashida (48), and Kenya (31). Each will reportedly receive $71 million.
In the days following his death, fans and celebrities celebrated Quiny’s life and career in touching tributes online, including Will Smith, LL Cool J, John Legend, Lionel Richie, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Dr. Dre, Ice-T, John Legend and more.
The family told the AP they are “enormously grateful for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans from around the world,” and said “details for a memorial celebration of Mr. Jones’ life will be announced at a later date.”
