‘GENIUS: MLK/X’ Exclusive Clip: Registering to Vote | Watch

*We have an exclusive clip from National Geographic’s “GENIUS: MLK/X” starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Aaron Pierre as Malcolm X.

This latest installment of the award-winning ‘GENIUS’ franchise focuses on Dr. King and Malcolm X and how their dueling philosophies helped usher America through the Civil Rights Movement, per the press release. The eight-part series premiered Feb. 1 on National Geographic and streams on Disney+ and Hulu.

The highlighted clip above underscores that despite the president’s signing of the Civil Rights Act, the process of registering to vote doesn’t unfold as smoothly as anticipated.

We reported earlier that Ambassador Shabazz (producer, writer, diplomat, and eldest daughter of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X Shabazz) served as consulting producer for the series.

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Television serve as producers on the series, as well as Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

“When you don’t just look at them as icons but human beings and human beings that were challenged, challenged with even mental health or depression or overcoming loss. It makes it more accessible to the audience,” said Reggie in an exclusive interview with EUR reporter L.Marie.

“We felt you don’t get to have Martin without Malcolm. They’re opposite sides of the same coin. We wanted to dispel this idea and belief that you have to choose between Malcolm and Martin,” said Bythewood.

“We’re absolutely in an age where people are literally trying to rewrite our history, erase our history. So, these narratives have to keep being told,” said Gina Prince-Bythewood.
