‘Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard’ – Preston & Jordan on Single vs. Married Dynamics | Watch

*”Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard” is the latest addition to the popular Bravo franchise. This season features an all-Black cast of eleven friends who vacationed on the picturesque island south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

As one of the first beach destinations where African Americans could vacation and buy property, the island holds a significant place in American history. This cast has real connections through fraternity ties, the Playboy club, work, and more.

EUR spoke to Jordan Emanuel and Preston Mitchum, two of the housemates, about their background and a topic that comes up this season, mixing single and married friends.

Emanuel is an outgoing jack of all trades. She is a Playmate, philanthropist, podcaster, DJ, and has a swim line. She met some of the other cast members, including Jasmine Cooper, through working at the Playboy Club in New York as Bunnies.

Emanuel shared that joining the show was natural for her as the group had already been moving as a unit for the last year or so. They had previously vacationed together and attended Jasmine’s bachelorette party and her wedding to Silas.

Mitchum, an attorney, activist, and Silas’ frat brother is a social butterfly; he shared the importance of LGBTQ representation in the media as one of the reasons he joined the show. He shared, “I want to showcase just what it means to be a possible model for those who have never seen themselves being reflected in their real life on full display.”

One subject that develops over the show is Silas’ concerns that single Jordan is a bad influence on his new bride Jasmine. On the topic of single and married friends hanging out, Mitchum said he believes that the issue is rooted in the insecurity of some married people who suddenly believe that single people are trying to keep them single.

“I’ll say this straight people are ridiculous. And I love that. I love my straight friends so much. But, I’m like, no, you may have to work out your insecurities on someone else.”  He adds, “Single folks have to recognize that they are married now and can’t do everything they used to do. But I have rarely seen that. It’s usually the other way around. I’ve mostly seen married folks, when they become married, change in a way that feels a little fake.”
