Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Trial Update: New Sentencing date set for Tory Lanez

*A Superior Court judge in downtown Los Angeles set a new sentencing date for retired rapper Tory Lanez. The judge, David Herriford, agreed to set a new sentencing date after Lanez dropped his attorneys for a new legal team. The new date for the sentencing is April 10.

Last December, Lanez was charged with assault and other crimes after allegedly shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in 2020. He has been behind bars as he awaits sentencing, previously set for Tuesday, February 28. When he appeared in court, the ex-rapper wore an orange jumpsuit and a black wave cap issued by the jail.

On being asked by the judge if he waived his sentencing date until April 10, Lanez responded, “yes, your honor.”

After firing his old legal team, Lanez hired David Kenner, Suge Knight’s former lawyer. The new lawyer then filed a motion asking for a new trial.

Should the motion for a new trial date be rejected on April 10, the former rapper’s sentencing hearing will proceed on the same day. Lanez could be sentenced to 22 years and eight months in jail.

The Superior Court judge also reportedly lifted a gag order that prevented Lanez from talking about the trial or Megan Thee Stallion. His new lawyer had termed the gag order “a terrible injustice, and the judge fixed that this morning.”

Michael “Harry-O” Harris, founder of Godfather Entertainment and co-founder of Death Row Records, was also seen outside the court. It is rumored that he is the one footing Lanez’s legal bills.
