Jacqueline Rhinehart, Tammi Mac, and Varnell Harris Johnson Tribute Added to The Living Legends Foundation’s 2023 Awards Ceremony Celebrating Hip-Hop At 50

Previously Announced Honorees for October 6 Event Include Media, Music, and Entertainment Legends Nelson George, Rocky Bucano, Ed Lover, Vernon Brown, Esq., Walt “Baby” Love, Lionel Ridenour, Tracey Jordan, and Shanti Das

*The Living Legends Foundation (LLF) today announces its latest honoree for the organization’s 2023 Awards Dinner and Gala. The LLF’s Vice President and board member Jacqueline Rhinehart will be presented with the Creative Visionary Award and will join the eight previously announced honorees at this year’s award ceremony. Also joining this year’s historic Hip Hop At 50 Celebration will be 102.3 FM KJLH Los Angeles air personality Tammi Mac, who will serve as the event’s first-time gala host; and DJ Battlecat will provide the entertainment. There will also be a tribute to the late Varnell Harris Johnson, veteran music executive and former president of the Living Legends Foundation. This year’s event will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Taglyan Cultural Complex, 1201 N. Vine Street, Hollywood, CA. The red carpet and cocktail reception begin at 6:30 p.m. with the awards dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Rhinehart’s more than 30 years in music, media, and marketing is legendary. A masterful omni-media and marketing strategist, her career included a stint as senior vice president of marketing at Universal/Motown Records, where she charted the course for Universal’s urban music marketing. She worked with the legendary Motown label and with artists and label imprints including Nelly, Erykah Badu, Cash Money Records, Boys II Men, Master P, and P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment. Before Universal/Motown Records, she was the senior director of publicity at Arista Records, where she served two tenures under the leadership of legendary music impresario Clive Davis.

During her tenure at Arista, she coordinated the media launch for both LaFace Records and Bad Boy Records and created media campaigns for various label artists including Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, TLC, Deborah Cox, Monica, The Notorious B.I.G., Sean “Diddy” Combs, Lisa Stansfield, and Kenny G, among others. Rhinehart’s diverse roles in the music and recording industries also included senior positions at PolyGram/Mercury and Uptown/MCA Records — adding such artists as Vanessa Williams, Oleta Adams, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Third World, Brian McKnight, Mary J. Blige, and Heavy D, to her growing roster of clients.

In 1986, she started her career in the recording industry as the Director of Artist Development at Hush Productions, a full-service entertainment company that produced Melba Moore, Freddie Jackson, Najee, Meli’sa Morgan, Ray Goodman & Brown, as well as award-winning songwriters McFadden & Whitehead, Barry Eastmond and Kashif, among others.

Rhinehart will join the eight other 2023 honorees, who are also among the first generation of music executives in hip-hop and media, including Rocky Bucano, executive director of the Universal Hip Hop Museum, who will be presented with the Hip Hop Visionary Award; Nelson George, author and filmmaker, will receive the Media Icon Award;  Ed Lover, syndicated air personality of The Ed Lover Show with Monie Love, will be presented with the Jerry Boulding Radio Award; Walt “Baby” Love, radio legend and syndicated air personality of Gospel Traxx, will receive the Ray Harris Lifetime Achievement Award; Lionel Ridenour, founder and CEO of Anchor Promotions, will be presented with the Music Executive Award; Tracey Jordan, a partner of Jordan/Lazin Productions, will receive the Mike Bernardo Female Executive Award; Vernon Brown, Esq., founder of V. Brown & Company, will be presented with the Entertainment Advocate Award; and Shanti Das, former music executive and founder of Silence The Shame, will receive the A.D. Washington Chairman’s Award.

Tammi Mac, a Houston native and three-time NAACP Image Award-winning broadcast journalist was handpicked by the iconic Stevie Wonder to host the number one afternoon radio show, “The Tammi Mac Show” from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. daily on Wonder’s Los Angeles 102.3. KJLH station. She was also voted the Best Radio Personality by the Los Angeles Times. Her voice is featured on national commercials including Amazon’s Alexa Super Bowl spot Ellen, Pepsi’s Super Bowl spot featuring Cindy Crawford, and Walmart featuring Kevin Hart. She is also the new voice on the television game show, “Pictionary,” hosted by Jerry O’Connell.

Kevin Alexander Gilliam, publicly known as DJ Battlecat is a native of South Central, Los Angeles, and internationally known for his production and deejaying all over the world. He has collaborated with multi-platinum and multi-genre artists including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, WC, Xzibit, Dogg Pound E40 Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, King T, Tha Eastsidaz, Faith Evans, Kenny Lattimore, Tyrese, Raphael Saadiq and The Dramatics, among many others.

This year’s Dinner Chairs are Skip Dillard, brand manager and program director for Audacy’s WXBK/94.7, the Block, New York City; and Lady B, air personality of Classix 107.9 in Philadelphia.
