Whoopi Goldberg Attends Historic Negro League’s Hinchliffe Stadium Reopening | WATCH

*Friday (05/19/23) was press day to get the word out about the reopening of Hinchliffe Stadium, once home to a Negro League team called the New York Black Yankees. Actually, let’s call it what it is. It’s really a transformative redevelopment of the historic 90-year-old baseball park.

Actress/comedian and “The View” co-host Whoopie Goldberg was on hand, along with other celebs at the facility’s reopening in Patterson, New Jersey.

Goldberg told New York‘s ABC7 the stadium, which is one of the last Negro League ballparks in the US, is essential to preserving American history.

“This is why we have to continue to insist that no history be erased,” Goldberg said. “Anything that’s happened in this country should never be erased from books of any kind because we need to know, we need to remember. Little kids need to know, and they need to understand. There’s not a color in this country that doesn’t participate in our collective history.”

What’s also noteworthy about the development is that there’s a lot more to it than Hinchliffe Stadium. The $106 million project will include a Negro League museum, and senior housing with great views of the ballpark, which will also be used by a high school that is next door to the complex.

ABC7’s Anthony Johnson has the FULL story via the video at the top of the page.
