*Eddie Murphy is speaking out about reprising his role as Axel Foley in the fourth installment of the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise.
The teaser trailer recently dropped for the upcoming “Beverly Hills Cop 4: Axel F,” which co-stars Taylour Paige stars as Axel Foley’s daughter, who teams up with her dad and his new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to “turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy,” according to the synopsis, TheWrap reports.
Per Netflix, “It’s been nearly 30 years since we last saw the fast-talking Detroit cop, but he’s finally heading out on a new case. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F sees Axel on patrol back in Beverly Hills, with friends both old and new.”
Murphy returns to the franchise ahead of the 40th anniversary of the hit 1984 film.
“I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore. It was an action movie. So it was a rough one. But we got through it,” Murphy told People in an interview.
“It’s a really physical movie and I had to do some physical stuff…. I like to be on the couch, I don’t like to be jumping over and shooting and running,” he said of the action sequences.
“I had to do some jumping and shooting and running. And as a result… at the end of the movie, I had a knee brace and my back is messed up. But the movie is gonna be special,” Murphy added.
Director Mark Molloy told Tudum: “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie’s improvising. For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment, cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best.”
Kevin Bacon costars as a captain in the Beverly Hills Police Department. The film also sees the return of Paul Reiser and Bronson Pincho.
“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” hits Netflix in the summer of 2024.
