*Aretha Franklin’s sons will divide the late singer’s real estate properties after a judge cited a handwritten will from 2014 found between couch cushions.

We reported previously via CNN that jurors found that the handwritten will, discovered by Franklin’s niece after the singer’s death, was signed by Franklin in 2014 and shows her intent.

Franklin owned four homes when she died of pancreatic cancer in 2018. Months after her death, the discovery of the two handwritten wills led to a dispute between her sons regarding her assets. On Monday, the judge overseeing the estate awarded properties to Franklin’s sons.

According to NPR, Franklin’s son, Kecalf Franklin, will a multi-million dollar property described by an attorney as the “crown jewel.”

Another son, Ted White II, will receive the sale proceeds from a house in Detroit that the estate sold for $300,000. Edward Franklin, the third son, was also granted property.

Another property worth more than $1 million will likely be sold, and the proceeds will be shared among four sons, according to NPR.

In August, it was reported that Franklin’s childhood home in Detroit was sold for $355k. According to TMZ, the 6000-square-foot property in Detroit’s La Salle Gardens neighborhood boasts 6-bed, 5-bath, fireplaces and an extra 1-bedroom unit upstairs.

Franklin reportedly lived at the location from age 5 to 18. She revisited the house in 2011 — watch the YouTube clip below.
