EUR Video Throwback: What Regina King Said about ‘Poetic Justice’ Costar Janet Jackson Before 7/23/93 Premiere

*Today marks the 27th anniversary of romantic drama “Poetic Justice” arriving in theaters. Director John Singleton was under pressure to match or surpass his critically-acclaimed debut, “Boys in the Hood,” and recruited the era’s hottest R&B and hip hop talent, Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur, to lead his effort.

Singleton would later call “Poetic Justice” the second film in his “hood trilogy” about coming of age in his South Central, Los Angeles hometown, the third film being “Baby Boy” in 2001.

RadioScope was invited to cover the press junket, where Singleton revealed that he had a “master plan” in his long shot dream to cast Jackson in her first film, and co-star Regina King shared with us her thoughts on what it was like to shoot a movie opposite a larger-than-life superstar from a world famous family.
