*Tiffany Haddish said she was invited to be at the Minneapolis memorial of George Floyd earlier this week and experienced a torrent of emotions that took her back to growing up and witnessing murders in Los Angeles.

During an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the comedian said it was important for her to be there because she’s witnessed people being killed in front of her as a teen in South Central. She expressed feeling helpless as a bystander who could do nothing to stop them. “So I wanted to be there in support of the family because I understand how they feel.”

Haddish also spoke about her thoughts after Rev. Al Sharpton called her to the front along with the mother of Eric Garner. “I was crying so much. Tears not just for Floyd, but for all of those people that passed away, all of my friends and my family members that are locked up. It was just like all the tears that I ever wanted to cry were coming out. I was trying to swallow them.”

She went on to talk about trying to imagine herself as Floyd during the 8 minutes and 47 seconds of silence, and the challenges of sobbing while wearing a mask.

She also talked about her idea of opening up a “Diaspora” grocery store in “food deserts,” complete with food “indigenous” to various regions within the black diaspora, as well as cooking classes and specialized utensils unique to various regions.
