When you’ve got the kind of rare talent Antonio Brown has, apparently you can act a fool all you want and it pays dividends.

The now-former Oakland Raiders/Pittsburgh Steelers player is headed to the New England Patriots. After getting dropped by the Raiders a few hours ago, Brown just signed a new 1-year deal with the New England Patriots.

The deal is worth up to $15 mil, with a $9 million signing bonus.

Like the Raiders, the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick have a history of bringing in players with baggage — from Chad Johnson to Randy Moss and Josh Gordon. There was a buzz Belichick had interest in AB, notes TMZ. Obviously, the rumors were factual. Brown will be eligible to play with the Pats as early as Week 2.

With an already elite receiving unit that includes Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman, the Patriots will have to be considered one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL.

Brown has already posted a pic of himself in a Pats jersey with the caption, “LFG #GodsPlan.

Brown jalso posted a video showing the moment he found out the Raiders released him — and tdude is super hyped! He runs around his house with a huge smile and even called his grandmother to tell her, “They freed me!”

Earlier, we reported …

*The saga of troubled NFL star/wide receiver Antonio Brown has taken another turn and with it, the Oakland Raiders have announced he’s been released from the team.

See, this is one of those be careful what you ask for scenarios. Sorta. You see, Brown’s short tenure with the team has been tumultuous, to say the least.

The bottom line is that Brown, via Instagram, asked to be released by the team and it gladly obliged.

Here’s more via ESPN:

Brown told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington in an email Saturday that there is “no way” he plays for the Raiders.

The Pro Bowl wide receiver said this is his stance after the team “took away my [contract] guarantees.” He added: “no way I play after they took that and made my contract week to week.”

The Raiders fined Brown $215,073.53 for conduct detrimental to the team, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

By fining Brown, the Raiders voided the $29.125 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal, sources told Schefter.

In addition, the Raiders sent Brown a letter stating that he no longer will be entitled to termination pay in the event that they release him, sources told Schefter.

As a result, Brown would have been playing on a week-to-week basis with both his guaranteed money voided and lack of termination pay.

Remember, this comes in the wake of Brown posting a video Friday night containing pieces of a phone conversation with head coach Jon Gruden.  It’s not clear if Gruden knew he was being recorded during the call.

But before that, it was one thing after another as far as the Raiders player, er, former Raiders player was concerned. It was difficult to see this ending almost any other way.

Somewhere, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is saying thank you, God, AGAIN for taking Brown off his hands when he was traded to the Raiders.
