*August Alsina updated fans on his recent health scare in a video posted to Instagram on Monday. Alsina explained why he canceled his scheduled set at the 2019 Essence Festival. The 26-year-old singer said he’s currently hospitalized after suffering a loss of mobility.
“So here’s the stitch,” Alsina said. “I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk. Couldn’t feel my legs. My doctor ended up admitting me to the hospital to do a bunch of tests and he said that I have some nerve damage going on throughout my whole body that I have to undergo a recovery process for.”
Continuing, “We’re doing a bunch of tests and they’re saying I have some nerve damage going on throughout my body,” he explains. “It’s like my immune system went on vacation. So, I’m just waiting on it to come back and we can get together and it can do what it do, man.”

The singer previously revealed that he suffers from a severe autoimmune disease that attacks his liver. This illness is the reason he collapsed on stage in 2014. He has not revealed the name of his ailment, but Complex notes that he did disclose to close friend Jada Pinkett-Smith that the disease is a hereditary condition.
“I have a liver disease where my autoimmune system is fighting against itself,” Alsina told Jada. “The reality of it is, I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy. Don’t treat me like I’m a f–king cancer patient, ’cause I’m not.”

“I take my career & your time very seriously & the fact that you guys show up for me, endlessly. Means the world! I’m man down right now,” he wrote.
