*Today is the day that beloved rapper Nipsey Hussle will be publicly memorialized and laid to rest in the City of Angels, Los Angeles. As we’ve chronicled, the LA native was gunned down on Sunday, March 31, 2019 in front of his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles.
Nipsey was known and loved in the community for the fact that he dedicated his life and career to uplifting through entrepreneurial and philanthropic work.
The “Celebration of Life & Legacy of Nipsey Hussle” memorial is set to start at 10 a.m. PT at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, which was “sold out” within moments of the free tickets being made available.
The service will reportedly include a “number of performances.” One performer that we can confirm is singer Anthony Hamilton. It’s worth noting that the last time the Staples Center was used for a similar event was for Michael Jackson’s memorial service 10 years ago in 2009.

Immediately following the service, there will be a 25.5-mile funeral procession that’ll pass through downtown Los Angeles, Inglewood, South L.A., and Watts — all of the locations essential to Hussle’s life, including the Marathon Clothing store where he was ultimately gunned down. As we reported, that intersection, Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue, will officially be renamed Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom Square. The procession will conclude at Angelus Funeral Home in the Crenshaw district; the Nation of Islam and LAPD will provide security along the way. Nipsey will be buried at Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.
