*ATLANTA, GA – Last Saturday’s awards ceremony at the 13th Annual Peachtree Village International Film Festival proved that the trailblazing efforts initiated by filmmaker Leon Isaac Kennedy more than 25 years ago is still regarded as one of the most important and pivotal accomplishments in moving the needle forward in the world of independent film.
It was Kennedy’s success in personally taking an independent film idea from conception to manifestation that helped to break down barriers and create opportunities for many of today’s successful filmmakers. Kennedy was celebrated with a standing ovation from today’s generation of filmmakers as he was presented the prestigious Legends Award for his groundbreaking achievements.
“It was a great honor to be celebrated in this way and it’s an even greater honor to know that my work has had such a lasting impact in the industry and this new generation of filmmakers! I am committed to helping them in any way I can – especially to maneuver through the maze and pitfalls of distribution – and to receive proper compensation for their efforts,” says Kennedy.
Kennedy was at the height of his acting and producing career when he shocked his agents and fans with the announcement that he would be leaving the entertainment industry to pursue ministry. Many were baffled by his decision to willfully and completely walk away from such a promising career, but Kennedy notes that the pull towards ministry was much stronger and something he was mandated to do. Now, after traveling the world and helping thousands of people to find God – or break addictions – or find fulfillment, Kennedy is making his way back to entertainment.
“ I left on my own terms, and God has blessed me so that I am able to return on my own terms. I will always continue to do ministry and help people, but, I am now coming back to use the Hollywood platform as a source for good! My phone has not stopped ringing since I received the award and I am both humbled and overwhelmed by this,” says Kennedy.
Kennedy is scheduled to announce his upcoming film projects slated to release in 2019.
