*CNN’s Don Lemon was furious on his show last night, reiterating what he had been saying all day on the network regarding ABC’s decision to cancel “Roseanne” over the star’s racist tweet.

“I give them credit for what they did today, I think that it was a good move, but they should have known before,” Lemon said on “The Situation Room” Tuesday afternoon. “What are they saying? As long as you keep your racism just hidden below the surface, it’s OK?” he asked.

Barr’s May 29 tweet referring to Barack Obama’s former adviser Valerie Jarrett as the child of the Islamist organization Muslim Brotherhood and the movie “Planet of the Apes” follows a history of racist tweets from the comedian. Earlier this year, photos resurfaced of Barr dressed as Adolf Hitler taking a batch of cookies shaped like children out of the oven. The 2009 photos reportedly appeared in a satirical Jewish magazine. In 2013, she tweeted that Obama’s former U.N. Ambassador and National Security Advisor Susan Rice “is a man with big swinging ape balls,” before later deleting the message.

Barr has also faced criticism recently for tweeting conspiracy theories.

“It’s out there, what she’s done, what she said, what she believes. It’s not the first time she’s done it,” Lemon said. “I think the bigger question is why was she given this opportunity to have this show again in the first place when her reputation precedes her?”

Lemon doubled down on his sentiment later Tuesday on his own show. Visibly irate, he opened by pointing out the normalization of racism that has gained momentum under the current occupant of the White House.
