*Tiffany Haddish continues her meteoric rise this week, as the breakout comic has been chosen to receive a special honor from the National Association of Theatre Owners, and has also booked a starring role opposite also Melissa McCarthy in an upcoming feature film.

The two funny ladies team for the mob drama “The Kitchen” for New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment, reports Variety. The story follows a group of Irish mobsters sent to prison. Their wives take over their jailed spouses’ organized crime operation to become the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in 1970s Hell’s Kitchen.

“Straight Outta Compton” writer Andrea Berloff will direct from her own script, based on the comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle from DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint. The movie will mark Berloff’s feature directorial debut.

The casting news comes as CinemaCon, held by the National Association of Theatre Owners, announces Haddish as the recipient of its annual Female Star of Tomorrow Award.

“Since breaking out on the big screen with her showstopping role in ‘Girls Trip,’ Tiffany Haddish has established herself as one of the most sought-after comedic talents in film,” said Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon. “With her unfiltered confidence and signature humor, she is sure to have audiences rolling in the aisles for years to come.”

CinemaCon will be held April 23 – 26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with the awards presented on the final night.
