*Serena Williams strolled into another Wimbledon final this morning, trouncing 50th-ranked Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-0 in just 49 minutes.
Immediately following the match, her older sister Venus fell short of becoming Serena’s championship opponent, losing to Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-4.
Again, Serena is one match away from tying Steffi Graf’s Open Era record of 22 major singles titles. After reaching the final at seven of the last eight majors, she lost in her two previous finals this year.
“Obviously I’m 0 for 2, so I’m determined to get at least one this year,” Serena told the BBC.
Saturday’s final between Williams and Kerber will be a rematch of January’s Australian Open final, which Kerber won in three sets.
“I made a lot of errors,” Serena said in her post-match presser, when asked to recall the loss in Melbourne. “She made little to no unforced errors. It was still a three-set match. I felt like I could have played better. I felt like she played great. She came out swinging, ready to win. She was fearless. That’s something I learned. When I go into a final, I, too, need to be fearless like she was. It was inspiring afterwards to realize there’s a lot of things that I need to improve on.”
