Snoop Dogg Has Over $200K Seized at Italian Airport

Snoop Dogg

*Italian police stopped Snoop Dogg last Friday as he prepared to board a private plane bound for Britain with over $422,000 in U.S. cash inside his Louis Vuitton luggage, a police source told CNN. The maximum amount of cash that passengers traveling through Italy can carry without declaring it is €10,000 ($11,010.25). This is to prevent money laundering.

Half of the cash was given back to Snoop Dogg, while the other half is being held by Italian authorities until the amount of the fine he will have to pay is determined. The rapper left Italy $205,000 lighter on Saturday after police seized money from him at an airport in Calabria. He told police that the cash was to pay his band for concerts in Italy and elsewhere. Snoop has been touring Europe since releasing his album “Bush” earlier this year.

“We clarified everything from a legal point of view. The money came from concerts he had performed around Europe. There was no crime; it was just an administrative infraction,” Snoop’s lawyer, Andrea Parisi told Reuters.

To be exact, Italian Finance Police seized $205,933. The police will open an investigation into the Italian concert he played shortly before attempting to depart the country and how the rapper was paid. According to the BBC, the money is likely to be returned, with a fine deducted.

After departing Italy, Snoop Dogg played the Kendal Calling Festival in northern England on Sunday.

Late last month, Snoop was stopped on suspicion of possessing drugs by police in Uppsala, Sweden. He criticized the police for “racially profiling” him. Swedish police have yet to receive the test results to see whether Snoop had drugs in his system. Authorities said test results would not be available for some time.

In related news, Snoop appears in the new music video for rapper Lil Dicky’s “Professional Rapper.” The track is from Dicky’s debut LP, “Professional.” Both the album and video dropped July 31. The video features the sarcastic Philly rapper getting interviewed by Snoop for the position of “Professional Rapper.” Peep the video below.

“Coming out of corporate America, every move I made involved a job interview,” Lil Dicky tells Billboard. “So if my next job is being a rapper, I thought it would be super cool to start the album out with a job interview. And who better to be interviewing me for the position than the legendary Snoop Dogg.”
