*For the first time, Disney on the Yard is heading west. The initiative, focused on celebrating and building community among HBCU students and alumni, is bringing its inaugural West Coast YardFest to the Downtown Disney District on July 12.
The family-friendly celebration will feature music, giveaways, and a historic appearance by Drum Major Mickey Mouse and his HBCU Drum Major crew. The Brooklyn United Drumline will join them, marking their debut performance at Disneyland Resort.
Guests are invited to represent their alma mater or Divine 9 organization, or simply enjoy the evening festivities near the Downtown Disney Live! Stage and Lawn starting around 6 p.m. Pacific.
This event is open to the public and free of charge—no theme park ticket required. Standard Downtown Disney parking rates still apply.
Separately, Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled exciting news at the Essence Festival of Culture. A new traveling exhibition, Tiana’s Joyful Celebration, is set to launch next year, offering guests a vibrant, immersive experience inspired by New Orleans culture.

The exhibition brings to life the music, cuisine, and community that define Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opened last year at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
“Tiana’s Joyful Celebration” will premiere March 7, 2026, at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis—the largest children’s museum in the world. From there, it will hit the road in 2027 with a nationwide tour to 12 cities.
Festival attendees over the weekend got a sneak peek of what the exhibit has in store. More details about the creative direction and Walt Disney Imagineering’s collaboration with The Children’s Museum can be found on the Disney Parks Blog.
