*Wendell Pierce Jr. urged Black men to support Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election during his interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid at the Democratic National Convention.
“There’s blood on that ballot box. Remember those who died in the rivers of Alabama and Mississippi. For them, do the honor and vote,” Pierce, known for roles in “The Wire,” “Suits,” and “Waiting to Exhale,” told Reid on the convention floor.
“Any Black man that has an issue with a Black woman rising, they have to look at their own inadequacy,” said Pierce.
“What would make you so fearful of someone who was so beloved of you, who was so loving to you, like your mother and your grandmother and your aunts and your sisters, that you cannot be proud and embolden yourself when you see someone from your community rise up?” Pierce added.
As The Hill reports, Pierce highlighted the Biden-Harris administration’s $2 billion restitution to Black farmers affected by USDA discrimination, their investments in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and efforts toward student loan forgiveness.
“There’s blood on that ballot box. For them. Do them the honor and vote.” Famed actor @WendellPierce spoke to Joy Reid at #DNC2024CHICAGO about the historic nature of Vice President Kamala Harris’ nomination with a special message for Black men.

“If that’s not enough for you to vote for this campaign, why don’t you go to the other and hold up a sign behind him at a rally and tap dance – that’s what they want,” Pierce said.
Conservative commentator Delano Squires reacted to Pierce’s remarks on X, writing, “Can you explain why black men should vote for the party of Pride & abortion, defunding the police & disarming law-abiding citizens, opposing school choice & supporting open borders without identity politics or emotional manipulation? Thx.”
Pierce faced additional pushback on social media after urging Black male voters to support Vice President Harris, with critics questioning her track record and impact on the Black community.
One X user wrote, “TYPICAL DEMOCRAT RACE BAITING! If you disagree with a black politician, you’re a racist! If you disagree with a black female Democrat, you’re afraid of black women. I just checked, I’m still as black as I’ve always been, I couldn’t be paid to vote for Harris! She’s a LIBERAL/Socialist/her policies are TERRIBLE/she’s Anti American/she’s a liar who will say anything to get votes! Her sex/race are irrelevant!!”
Another one commented, “One of the greatest shows of all time, The Wire, was revered for its realism in 90’s Baltimore….yet guys like him can’t hold the political party responsible for running it into the ground….or any other major city for that matter. Smh….”
A third person added, “Hard to see why black men should be pro-abortion unless the theory is that they are too irresponsible to use contraception.”
Do you agree with Wendell’s message to Black male voters? Sound off in the comments.
