*Almost 20 years after portraying Michael Jackson in the controversial 2004 biographical drama “Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story,” Flex Alexander is still explaining his involvement in the film.

Taking to social media, the former “One on One” star shared his reasoning behind his decision to play the King of Pop. For Alexander, it was the business of doing what he needed to do to take care of his family, when he was approached to take the role.

“So I sat down at this table and these producers they said, ‘Man, you do this, you’re gonna be a big star! Bigger than Will Smith, Bigger than Denzel [Washington]!” the funnyman recently said on his daughter Imani’s TikTok account before getting serious on the topic.

“Listen, the role came up, I had took a meeting and I didn’t think they were going to pick me. I really didn’t, he continued” I said, ‘I’m 6’4, there’s no way you’re gonna pick me.’ And they did.

He added: “I have a family to take care of. I had [my daughter] and her brother and, yeah, [I] had a family.”

Airing on VH1 on Aug. 6, 2004, “Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story” chronicled Jackson’s rise to fame and issues he dealt with in the prime of his career after the release of his classic album “Thriller.”

Upon its airing, the film was panned by fans and critics.

Alexander’s TikTok discussion on playing Jackson marks his latest time discussing the film. In a past interview, the former dancer revealed his shock at landing the role as well as when he learned that none of Jackson’s actual music would be included in the feature.

Remarkably, Alexander’s portrayal of Michael Jackson still garnered him (another) NAACP Image Award nomination. He says he refused to play the icon with prosthetic special effects makeup but did mimic his voice, copied mannerisms, and had a makeup job done to lighten his skin tone. He also refused to “cast judgment” over the singer’s infamous legal troubles he was going through at the time.
