*Halle Berry recently shared a video on social media promoting her new intimacy gel, “Let’s Spin,” which she created for women experiencing menopause or perimenopause.
In the clip, Berry opens up about the intimacy challenges many women face during peri- and post-menopause, stating that they can feel like “little razors in your vagina.”
“When I realized that the product I needed wasn’t on the market, I decided to make it myself,” she explained.
In the post’s caption, she wrote: “Public Service Announcement to all of my ladies. You all know by now that I found out that I was in perimenopause with my intimacy coming to a screeching halt! Meet my new best friend 😉 “Let’s Spin” is an intimacy gel my company @respin spent a year developing with @joyluxinc and I’m happy to finally share it with you all. It’s clean, it’s fresh, and very lubricating! Spinning never felt so good ya’ll! Head over to the link in my bio to give yourself the gift of intimate health this year ❤️.. and through Monday, you can take advantage of 25% off!”
In the comments, she added, “Well I have and had the right man and still had the issue. It is all about midlife for women and losing our estrogen. Estrogen makes up every cell of our body and when we lose that everything changes. I’m here to help women understand how we can go through midlife without missing a beat. Please come join us at rayspin we got you!”
The product comes months after the Oscar winner revealed that her doctor misdiagnosed perimenopause as the “worst case of herpes” he’d ever seen. She discussed menopause and women’s health earlier this year at a summit called “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation” held at the Getty Center with first lady Jill Biden. Berry recounted when a doctor mistakenly identified her perimenopause symptoms as those of a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
Berry said she had sought out medical advice due to vaginal dryness and the pain she was experiencing during sex with her boyfriend, musician Van Hunt.
“I feel like I have razor blades in my vagina. I run to my gynecologist and I say, ‘Oh my God, what’s happening?’ It was terrible,” Berry recalled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “He said, ‘You have the worst case of herpes I’ve ever seen.’ I’m like, ‘Herpes? I don’t have herpes!’”
She said she confronted Hunt after the diagnosis, and they both tested negative for the STD.
“I realized after the fact that is a symptom of perimenopause,” Berry said about the vaginal pain.
“First of all, my ego told me that I was going to skip [perimenopause],” Berry said. “I’m in great shape. I’m healthy. I managed to get myself off of insulin and manage my diabetes since I’m 20 years old. So that makes one think, oh, I can handle menopause. I’m going to skip that whole thing. I was so uneducated about it at that time.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Perimenopause is “the time during which your body makes the natural transition to menopause, marking the end of the reproductive years.”
“My doctor had no knowledge and didn’t prepare me, that’s when I knew, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve got to use my platform, I have to use all of who I am and I have to start making a change and a difference for other women.’”
