*A Houston man will serve 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a New Jersey single father in a “jealous ambush.”

James Ray Lane, 24, pleaded guilty in August to murder for fatally shooting Gregory L. Moore on June 28, 2021. According to RadarOnline.com, Moore and three of his friends traveled for vacation from New Jersey to Texas in June 2021, where they stayed at an Airbnb in Spring, as Front Page Detectives reported.

While there, Moore invited a woman he met out on the town to his Airbnb. At the time, she was dating Lane, who tracked her to Moore’s Airbnb via her cell phone location. Lane drove to the house and pistol-whipped Moore and his girlfriend before shooting Moore multiple times.

The woman and Lane then left the scene together. Moore died at the scene.

Detectives identified Lane as Moore’s killer days later, based on cell phone data and witness accounts.

Lane pleaded guilty to murder on Aug. 17, 2023, and was sentenced to 22 years behind bars during an Oct. 30 hearing, Radar reports.

“This was a planned and premeditated attack on an unsuspecting visitor to Houston, and there have to be consequences,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a statement.

“This was a jealous ambush — he ran up to them with a flashlight and a gun and ended up shooting nine times,” said Assistant District Attorney Kasie Herring.

Moore’s family gave victim impact statements after Lane was sentenced, Click 2 Houston reports.

“They talked about how he drove all the way to Spring from southwest Houston and could have changed his mind anywhere along the way,” ADA Rodulfo Martinez said of the family. “He did not show any true remorse or accountability, even after pleading guilty.”

Lane must serve half of his prison sentence before he is eligible for parole.
