Raysean White: Man Who Taped Blake Shooting Has Mixed Feelings

*The man who posted the video of a police officer shooting Jacob Blake in the back seven times says he did the right thing but feels a certain responsibility for the subsequent violence and two deaths it caused in his city. Kenosha resident Raysean White speaks to Wesley Lowery for a 60 IN 6 report premiering on Quibi Wednesday (09-02-20) evening at 8:00 PM ET.

The shooting of Blake, who is Black, by a white Kenosha officer, leaving him partially paralyzed, sparked violent street protests during which three persons were shot, two of them killed. White was in his apartment across the street when he began videotaping police and Blake with his phone.

“I kind of feel responsible because I posted the video. But I know I needed to post the video for it to get out there,” he tells Lowery in the video interview.

“Black Lives Matter stuff has been going on for some years now…Seeing this Black guy getting shot seven times by this white cop, it’s going to spark outrage. “I think I did the right thing. I just…I feel kind of responsible, in a way, for it, though,” says White.

In addition to White’s interview and eyewitness account, the 60 IN 6 report also contains Lowery’s interviews with Blake’s uncle, Justin Blake, and Tanya McLean, a Kenosha resident and community organizer.

At his request, 60 IN 6 does not show White’s face on camera.
