T.I. Explains Why He Must Protect His Daughters (Not His Sons) From Heartbreak [WATCH]

*T.I. addressed his controversial remarks about his daughter Deyjah Harris virginity during a recent episode of “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle.”

Last November, while appearing on an episode of Nazanin Mandi’s Ladies Like Us podcast, the rapper revealed that he takes his teen daughter to the gynecologist for virginity testing.

“This is the thing,” he said, “Deyjah’s 18, just graduated high school now and she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”

The rapper caught major heat over the comments, and later responded to the backlash by claiming that he was never in the room with his daughter during the exams.

In the episode of “T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle,” Tip spoke to his friend, singer Monica, about how she handles her sons’ dating lives, and then explains why he parents his daughters differently than his sons.

“To be honest with you, I only feel the need to protect the girls from heartbreak. So for me, it’s about making sure that my daughters grow up as happy and unencumbered by outsiders tweaking their emotions as possible,” Tip said during his confessional. “That doesn’t mean that I don’t want my daughters to date or have experiences. It just means I know that they will hold on to those experiences and I don’t know how that will translate when they come out of it.”

T.I. believes boys don’t know who they are until they experience heartbreak. His 24-year-old stepdaughter Zonnique has called out this double standard.

“Since we were all younger he’s always been super protective over the girls. And it always seemed like the boys could just do whatever,” Zonnique explained during an interview with Hollywood Life. “My mom will always argue, like, you don’t care that the boys go on dates, you let their girlfriends come over. You know we meet their girlfriends, it’s all cool, it’s like a regular thing. But you know, if I’m in a relationship and I bring my boyfriend over, the whole family has to talk to him. He has to go outside with pops and have these hour-long conversations.”

We previously reported… T.I.’s wife Tiny Harris addressed the issue with Deyjah while promoting their reality show on Entertainment Tonight.

Harris said T.I. and Deyjah are doing “really good,” and that fans will get to see more of their bond on the show.

“You’re gonna see Tip going through some things with Deyjah,” she said. “That is one of the biggest things our family had to deal with this season. It was a big deal. Their relationship is definitely much better now because Deyjah is a very bright girl. Her dad just wants to love on her, so any time he’s around her, he just can’t stop loving on her. They’ve been doing really good.”

“There’s a lot of conversation,” Tiny added. “A lot of talking, a lot of back-and-forth trying to figure out where the biggest problem was. And understanding how she feels, where he was coming from and what he actually meant by whatever he said. There was no malicious ill intent in his reason for speaking on it. So, understanding that and her knowing that [helped] bridge the gap.”
