Snoop Dogg Says His Gayle King Rant Was Meant to Protect Vanessa Bryant [VIDEO]

Snoop Dogg on RED TABLE TALK

*A special new Red Table Talk episode with guest Snoop Dogg will be available on Facebook Watch tomorrow, February 26. In this highly anticipated episode, Snoop and host Jada Pinkett-Smith address the controversy over his verbal rant to Gayle King for asking about Kobe Bryant’s past sexual assault case during an interview that aired following his death late last month.

Snoop’s criticism of King was met with both praise and backlash, and he explains to Jada, who is joined by her daughter Willow and her mom Adrienne, what led to his apology to the veteran journalist and what he’s learned since.

Snoop makes clear that he felt moved to put King on blast in order to protect Kobe’s wife Vanessa

“I wanted to make sure that what I said was said the right way. And I wanted to make sure that the message was across that we love Kobe and be respectful of Vanessa and those kids,” Snoop said in a sneak peak from Wednesday’s show. “That’s what the whole intent was: To protect that woman and them babies over there because she’s still grieving and let’s give them that respect.”

Jada flipped the script on the entire narrative by claiming Snoop’s attack on King was an attack on ALL Black women.

“When you first came out and you said what you said in regards to Gayle, my heart dropped,” Jada says in a clip. “I felt like not only were you talking to Gayle, but you were talking to me… I was like, ‘Not Snoop.’ And so that’s one of the reasons why I felt like I really wanted to have this conversation with you in the spirit of healing.”

As clips of the episode circulate online, Black Twitter is not having any of Jada’s mental gymnastics, with many calling her out for making the Snoop/King controversy a personal dilemma.

One Twitter user addressed Jada directly, writing: “Super disappointed in you for not touching on the ENTIRE STORY! The Rootcause! Signed.. #BlackWoman. And BTW! I took absolutely no offense to what Snoop said in his original video!”

User Craig Bowie noted, “Snoop dogg , a huge Kobe Bryant fan , snapped on Gayle king because she brought up a rape case from 2003 that was dismissed 17 YEARS AGO in an extremely sad/disrespectful attempt to ruin that man’s image. How the f*ck did you feel like he was talking to you? This is a joke.”

In a follow-up tweet, he said, “This was maybe 2 weeks after he passed even if that? It might’ve been a week. I love Jada pinkett so much but this is the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever heard. Sh*ts a joke. Where is the smoke for the woman that actually committed the disrespectful acts?”

Bowie also added, “Gayle king best friends with Harvey Weinstein a man on trial for multiple rape allegations right now and you worried about snoop dogg and giving that woman no smoke? A joke.”

Snoop Dogg’s episode of Red Table Talk will air Feb. 26 on Facebook Watch at 12 p.m. ET.
