*After Kevin Hart announced he was out as host of the 2019 Academy Awards, Whoopi Goldberg weighed in on the matter and volunteered herself to host the Oscars, but she also had another comedian in mind for the gig too.
When “The View” host appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” last month, she recommended “brilliant” actor and comedian Ken Jeong for the job.
“I want Ken [Jeong] to do it,” Goldberg said. “He would be brilliant and it would also constitute the first Asian American to host the Oscars. It would be a whole series of firsts.”
“And he also loves film and I think that’s what you need in a host,” she continued in the clip above. “You need somebody who actually gets why films are great and can tell you the ins and outs and the silliness of movies.”

Jeong is best known for his role in “The Hangover” franchise and starring in his own sitcom, “Dr. Ken.” Most recently he appeared in “Crazy Rich Asians” and the “Goosebumps” sequel.
As noted by TooFab, when Colbert asked Whoopi why no one wants the job as Oscar host, the EGOT winner explained it’s because stars don’t want to be critiqued on social media about their MC skills.
“Nobody wants to hear that,” she said. “It should be a lot easier to do than it is.”
The ladies of “The View” also weighed in on reports that The Academy was considering having no host at all.
“Here’s the deal, if you wanna go hostless, that’s your prerogative,” said Goldberg. “I think it’s a dumb idea because people need you to take them through things and take care of things when they happen.”
When her co-hosts asked who should host this year’s event, Whoopi suggested herself.
“I realize I may not be anybody’s first choice,” she admitted. “Half of the country is sometimes really mad at me, the other half is okay, until tomorrow and they’re pissed.”
