Beautiful and talented Ajiona Alexus (“13 Reasons Why,” “Acrimony”) stars in the gripping suspense thriller “Breaking In.” In an exclusive interview with the breakout actress, she gave the 411 on “Breaking In,” family, and social media.

Ajiona, why is this role so important to you?

It’s because the film’s going to show Gab (Gabrielle Union) being a baddass mom and me being an older sister ready to do all that is necessary to help my family. It’s showing African American females in such a strong way and shedding light on them able to handle their own business. There are very few films out here that celebrate not only African American women but just women. So I’m glad to be a part of a project that celebrates moms, daughters and all types of women out there.

Do you relate to your character?

Yes, I do. All kids go through changes with their parents. It is important, no matter how mad we get at each other, how much we argue, or what we’re going through, that when it comes to a life and death situation, you’re willing to sacrifice yourself for them.

You’re known for being an anti-bullying advocate and volunteering your time with Girls Inc. Are you comfortable being a role model?

It’s like everybody’s a role model in his or her own way. I just do what I believe, hoping the best for young women.

Although you have 1.2 million Instagram followers, I read that you think people spend too much time on social media?

I was just talking about this to one of my friends the other day. I think it can be very brain washing. Social media is definitely taking over and it’s a little scary. The best thing you can do at this point is just try and use it for the greater good and not get caught up in the bs (bull sh!t).

For me, I just look at the bigger picture. I want to be able to serve the world, use my platform for bigger and better things in life, and attack issues that need to be addressed in today’s society.
