*Andy Murray’s dramatic victory over Argentina’s Juan Martin Del on Sunday made the British tennis star the first man ever to win back-to-back singles gold medals at the Olympics.
After the intense four-hour affair, the BBC’s John Inverdale rolled up for the post-match interview with his microphone and severe memory loss, appearing to forget the existence of women’s tennis.
Telling Murray that he was the first person to win two tennis golds at the Olympics, the athlete corrected him.
“Venus and Serena have won four each.”

Twitter stood up and applauded:
Why does the BBC still employ John Inverdale? ?? to @andy_murray for the perfect response after a hard-fought #gold pic.twitter.com/7cQIKUs8YV

“You’re the first player to win two golds”
“Venus and Serena have 4 each”
Murray owning Inverdale. Brilliant.

A) Well done for winning Gold!
B) Double well done for correcting Inverdale, not surprising he forgot about women. pic.twitter.com/8NHLnST8qW— Richard Brooks (@Just_RichardB) August 15, 2016
