*Despite earlier reports from local Alabama media, neither R. Kelly nor Lady Gaga will perform in Selma this weekend to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery march, reports Billboard.com.
Gaga’s touring manager confirmed the singer had no knowledge of her purported performance, and a rep for R. Kelly confirmed the same to Billboard.
Al.com, which originally reported the news, now reports the executive director of the Selma to Montgomery 50th Commemoration Foundation as saying, “They [Gaga and R. Kelly] are not confirmed but tentative.”
A rep for Gaga tells Billboard they’ve issued a cease-and-desist notice to the Alabama promoter.
President Obama is scheduled to give a speech Saturday to commemorate the anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery march, which is marked each year by the Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee.
