*Tyler Perry and Gelila Bekele may not be united in holy matrimony or even an official couple anymore, but they are on the same page in keeping their son Aman un-spoiled.
Chatting with People for its “One Last Thing” series, the entertainment mogul gushed about his offspring as he expressed “pure joy,” in giving his child a better life than he had growing up. The feeling is especially present Perry cheers on his little athlete.
“I don’t care if he wins or loses, Perry shared when discussing how seeing Aman in action represented his last moment of bliss. “For me, what moved me was I’m a father of a 10-year-old, and I get to stand here and watch him play. And to see him live a life way better than my 10-year-old self did. It really, really lets me know it’s just pure joy.”
Perry is more than capable of providing for his don. As one of the most successful members of the entertainment industry, the 55-year-old “Madea” film and theater series fixture is a certified household name. Yet he and Bekele make it their business to give Aman a life where he doesn’t display feelings of entitlement
“We are very much on the same page about that,” Perry told People while attending the premiere of his latest film, “The Six Triple Eight” earlier this month.

Recalling a time when Aman was around 5 years old, Perry emphasized his point in sharing what he and Bekele did to counter their son, who “started complaining about flying commercial.”
“He’d be going somewhere and he would say, ‘I want to be on Dad’s plane. I want to be on Dad’s plane!'”
From there, Bekele and Perry immediately shifted into team mode with a plan: “For about four years, he flew with her commercial in coach so that he could understand,” he said.
“We both are very clear-eyed about him not being this spoiled kid,” Perry added, with guidance to prevent Aman’s sense of entitlement from getting out of hand. “And when you start seeing hints of that, that’s got to be nipped in the bud right away.”
Perry’s ways to keep Aman grounded come as he promotes “The Six Triple Eight.” Based on the 2019 WWII History magazine article, “Fighting a Two-Front War”, by Kevin M. Hymel “The Six Triple Eight” tells the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a predominantly black all-female battalion that served in World War II.
The film, written, directed, and co-produced by Perry, stars Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Susan Sarandon, and Oprah Winfrey. It will arrive on Netflix on Dec. 20.
