*The NYPD’s highest-paid employee, Lt. Quathisha Epps, who earned over $400,000 last year, is retiring early amid an internal affairs investigation into her extensive overtime.
Her early retirement, just short of 20 years of service, will affect her pension and forfeit a $12,000 annual supplement given to officers with two decades of service, the New York Post reports.
Epps drew attention for earning $204,000 in overtime last year as an NYPD administrative officer, boosting her total pay to over $400,000—making her the department’s highest-paid employee. Following a report on her earnings, her overtime was capped, and she faced reassignment to patrol, a shift from her desk role.
Epps logged an average of 74 overtime hours per week, far exceeding her $164,477 base salary and out-earning her superior, Jeffrey Maddrey, who earned $292,000.

Investigators are now examining allegations that she falsified overtime records, signed off on her own time slips, and frequently arrived late, left early, or skipped work altogether.
Facing a pending probe and reassignment to patrol duty, Epps filed for vested separation retirement, with her last day set for Jan. 14. Her early retirement means she will forfeit full pension benefits but is expected to receive $16,000 monthly.
The Post reports that the NYPD has 30 days to complete its investigation before her pension is finalized.
Meanwhile, Epps was suspended without pay this week.
