*Sy’rai is ready. The singer stepped into a new chapter Thursday night with SY’RAI PRESENTS: COLD WAR, an intimate, invite-only listening session at Ameraycan Studios in North Hollywood, giving guests an early taste of her forthcoming project and, perhaps more importantly, a clearer picture of the artist she intends to become.
Yes, music is quite literally in Sy’rai’s DNA. She is the daughter of Grammy-winning singer and actress Brandy Norwood, and the vocal connection is undeniable. But during the evening, Sy’rai made it clear that having access to the blueprint did not mean she was willing to rush the process.
She shared that she has wanted to release music for years but simply didn’t believe she was ready before now.
Now, she says, the timing feels right.
She also spoke candidly about what music represents personally, describing singing as both her passion and her therapy. Whatever she experiences, there is usually a song somewhere in it.
“This business is a lot. I’ve seen it firsthand. So I think that, with my friends, my relationships, and my family supporting me, I can handle the pressure where I am currently mentally.”
Sy’rai admitted that at 16 — or even 21 — she doesn’t think she would have been prepared for everything that comes with pursuing music seriously: the studio sessions, rehearsals, discipline and grind required beyond simply being able to sing.
That emotional instinct appears central to the artist Sy’rai wants to become.
“Music is a universal language,” she told the room, explaining that listeners don’t necessarily have to understand the language of a song to understand how it makes them feel.
And Sy’rai wants to make people feel.
EUR was in the room as family and collaborators listened alongside her, including grandfather Willie Norwood, producer Steve Mackey, singer and Internet personality Isaiah Jaay and Brandy, who was anything but a silent observer. Mom sang along, reacted enthusiastically to the music and even jumped into the Q&A.
The first single “Bullseye” offers the public its first taste.
COLD WAR drops August 28, and Sy’rai sounds ready for it.
