*Just two weeks after a contentious and narrow defeat in the Texas Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett made her first major public appearance, delivering a powerful message of resilience and gratitude at the MPowered Maverick Celebration in Beverly Hills.
Crockett was among the honorees at the intimate gathering hosted by powerhouse producer Mona Scott-Young. Held at the Sofitel Beverly Hills, the event celebrated trailblazing women, Black excellence, and leadership in honor of Women’s History Month, providing a fitting backdrop for Crockett to address her recent loss to State Rep. James Talarico, according to a report from EBONY Magazine.
A Message of Resilience in Beverly Hills
Stepping out in a stunning short, structured white dress, Crockett addressed the room of entertainment moguls, cultural leaders, and advocates with a tone that was less concession and more clarion call. Rather than dwelling on the defeat, she reframed the narrative around the strength of the movement behind her campaign.
“I am very clear that one thing that we learned for sure on election day is that they would have to spend almost 40 million dollars to take me down, more than has ever been spent in the Democratic primary in the history of the state of Texas,” Crockett stated to a supportive crowd, according to remarks covered by EBONY. “That they would have to engage in voter suppression.”

Addressing Election Controversy Head-On
Her comments alluded to the challenges on election night, which included reported voting issues and delays in Dallas County that led to claims of disenfranchisement. While the primary resulted in a single-digit margin loss for Crockett, she used the platform in Los Angeles to highlight the broader fight against systemic barriers.
“But the one thing that I know is that Black people saw through every single racist thing that took place,” she continued, shifting the focus to the unwavering support of her base. “And so, I’m just grateful. I’m here to just say thank you, because so many of you who have never met me cover me in your prayers, so many who have never met me sent me your dollars. I just want you to know that it’s always been real and it will always be real for me.”
‘It Feels Like I’m an Imposter’: A Moment of Humility
The congresswoman’s appearance marked her first major “silence-breaking” moment since the March 3 primary, contrasting sharply with the frustration expressed on election night. At the MPowered event, surrounded by a community of sisterhood and “maverick spirit,” Crockett embodied the event’s theme of perseverance.
Admitting that recognition can sometimes feel like a double-edged sword, Crockett displayed a moment of vulnerability. “I am so humbled and so thankful and so grateful, this is the only time that it feels like I’m an imposter,” she confessed to the audience, a sentiment that was met with encouragement from the room full of peers who have navigated similar journeys.
The Fight Continues: Advocacy Beyond the Ballot
Crockett’s speech resonated deeply with the core mission of the afternoon: to honor women who continue to rise despite obstacles. Echoing broader themes of the celebration, she reinforced the idea that setbacks do not define the mission. Her message was clear: the work for equity and bold leadership does not end with one election cycle.
Crockett urged attendees to stay engaged in uplifting Black voices and fighting for justice. Her appearance served as a powerful reminder that for determined women, particularly Black women in politics, a loss at the polls is not the end of the road, but a redirection of energy toward the next fight.
