*Sometimes it’s better to just stay out of it. Even if you are a “peacemaker.” Ja Rule knows this firsthand, admitting he played the role during the up and down relationship between Irv Gotti and Ashanti.
Chatting on the BagFuel podcast, the opened up about multiple efforts to keep things smooth between his “brother” and “sister.” Ultimately, Rule had to let it go and let Gotti and Ashanti handle their business on their own, Vibe noted.
“It’s really like a family thing. I’m y’all’s brother, how much do y’all want me to get involved?” Rule shared in early July while describing the awkwardness of the situation with everyone involved.
“We were like a family dynamic. It’s just sad that my brother and my sister were arguing and going through it like that… I tried to play the peacemaker.
He added: “I tried plenty of times to mediate the sh**, but it came to a point where I was like, ‘You know what? I’m out of it. Y’all f***ing deal with it.’”
Though it could have ended up negative, Rule’s self-imposed departure didn’t rub Gotti nor Ashanti the wrong way.
The then-couple were fine to confine their feud to just them.
“Both parties said, ‘Cool, I got you Rule.’ I’m not sending no more messages. I’m not doing none of that sh**. I’m out. Just leave me the f**k out of it. Y’all deal with it. Y’all grown,’” the “Always on Time” MC continued. “And everybody was cool with my stance, and that’s fine… I wish it could have been different.”
Rule’s remembrance of his peacemaker stint comes years after Gotti claimed he was in love with Ashanti when she first started dating St. Louis rhymesayer Nelly in the early 2000s.

For Ashanti, the Murder Inc. label head’s confession was something that didn’t raise an eyebrow, consider how untruthful he was regarding certain things.
“It wasn’t surprising to me,” she said about Gotti’s love confession. “Irv flat-out lied about a lot of things.”
Despite their romantic falling out, life went on for Gotti and Ashanti, who enjoyed great success during her time at Murder Inc.
In February 2025, Gotti, passed away, reportedly suffering a stroke that caused a brain bleed.
Ashanti voiced her complicated feelings towards the former producer in a heartfelt tribute.

She later revealed she extended an olive branch to Gotti, despite not reconciling with him before his death.
“I can’t believe things ended like this….and it makes me so sad…,” We weren’t on the best terms the past few years but as I’ve always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that you’ve done for me,” she detailed.
“We made history and that will remain infinite.. I’ve always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best.. All the greatness and positive things that came, far outweigh the dark and negative times. I have always prayed for you to find peace. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. Rest well. Rest in Peace Irv.”
