*It’s an ironic twist. You see, while rental markets on a national level are cooling off, the cost of renting is doing just the opposite. In the “good ol’ days” of the pandemic, there were funds from the government to ease the pain. As they say, that was then. This is now.

In 2022, half of all U.S. renters were spending at least 30% of their income on housing and utilities — a threshold that researchers consider “cost-burdened,” reports WGBH.orgThat figure went up by two million in just three years to a record high of 22.4 million, according to “America’s Rental Housing,” a study by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University.
