*Universal Music Group (UMG) CEO Sir Lucian Grainge is gearing up for a legal war with the lawyer of Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs for $30 million in a sexual assault case.
Grainge is named in Jones’ lawsuit and accused of enabling Diddy’s penchant for allegedly drugging and having sex with minors. All Hip Hop reports that Diddy is signed to Motown, a unit of UMG.
We reported earlier that Jones alleges in his lawsuit that Combs possesses explicit videos involving celebrities, rappers, and music industry executives.
Jones is seeking $30 million in punitive damages, claiming the Bad Boy Records founder sexually harassed, drugged, and threatened him for more than a year.
He served as Comb’s videographer from September 2022 to November 2023. Throughout this period, he allegedly documented extensive evidence of Combs, his associates, and additional individuals participating in significant unlawful activities. The lawsuit claims Diddy covertly recorded celebrities during his “freak off” parties.
The lawsuit names other key figures within the entertainment industry, including actor Cuba Gooding Jr., Pastor T.D. Jakes, and rapper Yung Miami is listed among those identified as Diddy’s sex workers, along with Daphne Joy, the mother of 50 Cent’s youngest son, Sire Jackson.
Per All Hip Hop, “Lil Rod claims Grainge was present at the Diddy’s events, which included the presence of sex workers, underage girls, and the spiking of drinks with date rape drugs,” the outlet writes.
It is alleged that Grainge and UMG sponsored and participated in these activities, thereby implicating them in a situation considered unlawful.
UMG and Grainge’s representatives have refuted the claims made by Lil Rod’s counsel, Tyrone Blackburn.
“I sent him a letter detailing the falsity and legal baselessness of his claims and allegations against our clients, demanding that he dismiss the claims against our clients with prejudice,” Sir Lucian Grainge’s lawyer, Donald Zakarin of Pryor Cashman, explained, per All Hip Hop
Zakarin said Blackburn “had no basis for and should never have brought any complaint against our clients and he should dismiss the amended complaint forthwith.”
“It appears that Mr. Blackburn does not believe that this is a satisfactory solution. It is, however, an entirely appropriate solution given that the claims asserted against our clients are factually (and offensively) false and there is no legal basis for any claim against them,” Zakarin continued.
“We intend to file a motion to dismiss, even without our clients being served with process and will follow that, in accordance with the requirements of Rule 11, with a motion for sanctions against Mr. Blackburn and his client,” Zakarin added.
Per All Hip Hop, “Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure is a mechanism designed to maintain the integrity of the judicial process by preventing parties from filing frivolous or baseless claims,” the outlet writes.
