*Actress Lacretta stars as Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous on the new version of the courtroom sitcom “Night Court,” and we caught up with the star to unpack the current season.

“Gurgs is weird in a great and interesting way,” Lacretta told TheaterMania in January 2023.

“She’s smart—she’s just different from our typical big, Black woman, and I really want to embrace that,” she added.  “I’m a weird person. And I think that Gurgs is even weirder. It was nice to just kind of relent to her weirdness.”

Per NBC Insider, the comedy’s first season received such acclaim that it was swiftly greenlit for a second season. The “Night Court” pilot episode was the number-one broadcast premiere of the 2022-2023 season.

“Night Court” Season 2 premiered January 2, 2024, with John Larroquette reprising his role as Dan Fielding.

“We knew we wanted John [Larroquette] to be a part of [the show], and luckily he was open to it,” the show’s executive producer Winston Rauch told TV Insider. “He won four Emmys in a row for Night Court.”

Larroquette told Deadline, “It’s still Night Court, so you’re still gonna have a rowdy circus of perpetrators that wind up there at, like, 3 o’clock in the morning who will be just as impressive to the audience as the old guest stars.”

Marsha Warfield made a surprise appearance as Roz in the Season 1 finale, and she’s back for Season 2.

As for what viewers and “Night Court” newcomers can expect from the latest season, watch our exclusive interview with Lacretta to hear how Season 2 expands upon the universe established in the first season of the series reboot. Check out the clip below.

“Night Court” airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and the next day on Peacock
