Janet Jackson and Maxwell’s recent appearance together in London has set tongues wagging, but insiders say there’s no truth to the romance rumors.
The longtime friends were spotted looking cozy at the 1,500th performance of “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club,” arriving hand-in-hand with Janet leading the way.
However, sources close to Janet insist that their relationship remains platonic. Both artists are currently single, with Janet having divorced in 2017, but their connection is reportedly nothing more than a strong friendship.

As PEOPLE reports, the pair attended the 1,500th performance of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre, where fan-captured photos and videos showed 59-year-old Jackson and 52-year-old Maxwell sharing affectionate moments that fueled speculation about a budding romance.
This public appearance follows Jackson’s 2017 divorce from Wissam Al Mana, with whom she shares an 8-year-old son, Eissa. The Grammy-winning singer, previously married to René Elizondo Jr. and James DeBarge, has been open about her romantic journey. In a July 2024 BBC interview, she playfully remarked, “How many times have I been married now? Three I think.”
More recently, in a September 2024 Guardian interview, Jackson confirmed her single status, reflecting on past relationships marked by coercive control. She expressed hope for healthier connections, stating, “I’m single, so I pray to God that I might have different lenses on these eyes than I did before,” adding, “I think I am breaking that pattern.”
Maxwell, known for hits like “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” and Jackson have not confirmed any romantic involvement, but their chemistry has fans talking. The outing comes on the heels of Jackson’s successful 10-date Las Vegas residency earlier in 2025, with six additional performances scheduled for September.
