*Zendaya is joining the “Shrek” franchise as the daughter of its two most famous ogres. DreamWorks Animation says the Emmy winner will voice Felicia, daughter of Shrek and Fiona, in “Shrek 5,” due out next summer.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are returning to voice Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo are also joining the cast as Felicia’s brothers, Fergus and Farkle. Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn are directing the film, with Brad Ableson serving as co-director. Both Vernon and Dohrn have deep ties to the franchise.
Vernon was part of the directing team on the Oscar-nominated “Shrek 2” and has voiced the Gingerbread Man, known as Gingy, throughout the entire series. He also directed “Monsters vs. Aliens” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” for DreamWorks.
Dohrn has worked on the franchise since “Shrek 2,” contributing as a writer and artist. He later served as head of story on “Shrek Forever After,” where he also voiced Rumpelstiltskin. He then moved into directing with the “Trolls” franchise, helming “Trolls World Tour” and “Trolls Band Together.”

Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri are producing “Shrek 5.” Shay previously produced “Shrek Forever After” and the “Trolls” films. Meledandri is an Oscar nominee and Illumination’s CEO who has led the “Despicable Me,” “Minions” and “Super Mario” franchises.
The “Shrek” franchise is based on the book by William Steig. It began in 2001 with the original “Shrek,” which won the first Academy Award ever given for Best Animated Feature. The four films released so far have grossed more than $2.9 billion worldwide.
Beyond the box office, the franchise has expanded into a touring live show. A Broadway musical based on the films earned eight Tony nominations and 12 Drama Desk nominations. The brand also includes a permanent attraction in London and experiences across Universal Destinations & Experiences theme parks.
