*Teyana Taylor faced a $70,000 fine for breaching her divorce agreement with Iman Shumpert by discussing their split on Instagram Live in March.
As Vibe reports, during an interview on “The Breakfast Club” on August 27, she explained her need to address rumors that surfaced long after their 2023 divorce filing. “I’m sitting here defending some sh*t that came out a year ago,” she said, motivated by protecting her daughter from misleading social media narratives.
“It’s hitting differently because it’s assumed that I moved on… ‘Yo, she took this person for everything.’ Now, I’m being called out my name,” she added.
The court ruled Taylor violated confidentiality terms, leading to the hefty penalty. Host Jess Hilarious noted, “It seemed like you had to pay a $70,000 bill for defending yourself,” to which Taylor responded, “And it was the best lil coin I’ve ever spent.” She stood by her actions, adding, “When I said I want to get put through the mattress in peace? Listen.”
Taylor and Shumpert, married in 2016, share daughters Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 9, and Rue Rose, 4. Their divorce, finalized in 2024, was marked by disputes, including Taylor’s claim that Shumpert displayed “extreme narcissistic behavior” and his counter that she lacked evidence.

“It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see,” Taylor shared on Instagram Stories in November 2023.
The legal battle saw Shumpert accuse Taylor of leaking details and using inflammatory language, claims she denied as “baseless.” The court dismissed her request for Shumpert to cover her legal fees and his motion for contempt over parenting issues.
