*Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film “Disclosure Day,” marking the legendary director’s return to alien science fiction. The movie stars Emily Blunt and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 12, 2026.
The clip introduces a mysterious global event tied to the revelation of extraterrestrial life. According to the film’s logline, “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to 7 billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.” The footage hints at a tense and emotional reckoning as humanity grapples with an unimaginable discovery. The cast also includes Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.

“Disclosure Day” follows Spielberg’s 2022 semi-autobiographical drama “The Fabelmans.” The new project places him back in the genre that helped define his career. Over decades, Spielberg shaped cinematic sci‑fi with films such as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” and “War of the Worlds.”
Despite his reputation for alien-centric storytelling, Spielberg has consistently said his fascination is not rooted in personal experience. During an appearance on “The Late Show” in 2023, he explained, “I’ve never seen a UFO. I wish I had! I’ve never seen anything I can’t explain. But I believe certain people who have seen things that they can’t explain. I think what has been coming up recently is fascinating, absolutely fascinating.”
Spielberg also addressed government secrecy and the broader question of life beyond Earth. “I don’t believe we’re alone in the universe. I think it’s mathematically impossible that we are the only intelligent species in the cosmos,” he said, before speculating whether unexplained sightings could even involve future humans observing their past.
With “Disclosure Day,” Spielberg once again blends scientific curiosity, fear, and wonder, setting the stage for a summer release that revisits questions he has explored for decades.
