*Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after his conviction in a high-profile sex-crimes case. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian handed down the ruling today, October 3, 2025, in Manhattan federal court, Business Insider reports.
Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison after his July conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex-trafficking charges. Before sentencing, Combs apologized to his family and friends, calling his actions “disgusting, shameful and sick.” He added that his children “deserve better” and admitted he had failed his mother “as a son.”
During the trial, jurors heard testimony from multiple women, among them Combs’ former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Before sentencing, Combs submitted a letter to the court apologizing for his past conduct. “I want to apologize and say how sincerely sorry I am for all of the hurt and pain that I have caused others by my conduct,” he wrote. Prosecutors had pushed for an 11-year sentence, while his defense team argued for no more than 14 months.
In the letter, Combs addressed his abuse of Ventura, referencing leaked hotel surveillance footage from 2016. “The scene and images of me assaulting Cassie play over and over in my head daily. I literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved. I’m sorry for that and always will be,” he wrote. He described his domestic violence as “a deep wound that leaves an ugly scar” and added, “I honestly feel sorry for something that I couldn’t forgive someone else for: if they put their hands on one of my daughters.”

Combs also mentioned testimony from “Jane,” an anonymous witness who said she was coerced into sex with male escorts. He claimed he once believed he was “providing for Jane concerning her and her child,” but admitted he later “realized that I hurt her.”
Despite the conviction, Combs told the court that his time behind bars had reshaped him. “Jail is designed to break you mentally, physically and spiritually,” he wrote. “The old me died in jail, and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you — I choose to live.” He said he has become sober “for the first time in 25 years,” participates in therapy, and mentors fellow inmates.

Asking for leniency, Combs concluded, “I can’t change the past, but I can change the future. I know that God put me here to transform me. … Today, I humbly ask you for another chance — another chance to be a better father, another chance to be a better son, another chance to be a better leader in my community and another chance to live a better life.”
Victims and their families also submitted letters urging the court to deliver accountability. Ventura described years of alleged abuse, forced “freak-offs,” and ongoing trauma. “I know that who he was to me—the manipulator, the aggressor, the abuser, the trafficker—is who he is as a human. He has no interest in changing or becoming better,” she wrote.
In a separate letter, her parents added, “To sentence lightly in this case that involved such vicious abuses of our daughters’ body, safety and dignity is to dismiss her very existence.”
Combs will receive credit for time already served, having spent the past 12 months in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
